If no drill press, then try tapping on the shaft with a nail and hammer, but that likely won't be that easy. I have tried to pull the drive shaft out with the pinion nut removed and it still seems stuck. I don't know if the pinion gear is pressed on or what I am afraid to try prying the pinion grear off.

Web12 aug. 2011 · Measuring rotating torque, the RIGHT way to do it would be remove the ring gear and carrier and measure just the rotation of the pinion but its not practical. Torque the nut down, i beleive its something like 475 ft/lbs. EDIT, i just did a quick search and found a good write up....here it is.
